hi all,

i have a Henry Plummer born in Chiswick in around 1824 who married Ann Hopkins (born in Market Lavington, Wiltshire in 1823). they married in Stepney in 1847 and i beleive they had a daughter Mary Ann Plummer also in 1847.

I have the family in 1861:
Name: Henry Plummer
Age: 37
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1824
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Ann
Gender: Male
Where born: Chiswick, Middlesex, England

I beleive the mary ann plummer should actually be aged 13 as i have her on 1851 below with her grandparents:

Name: Mary Ann Plummer

Estimated Birth Year: abt 1848
Relation: Granddaughter
Gender: Female

my problem is that i cannot find Henry and Ann in the 1851. they would have been married for four years. i beleive Ann may have returned home to give birth to mary Ann (hence why she was born in market lavington and all others in marylebone or pancras). I also have them on the 1871 (mistranscribed as Plimmer)

any help would be fabulous. Thank you. :D

Ricochet- Thank you very much, that certainly looks to be her. oh dear i didn't think about N's! i was hoping to find them together maybe with another child which would explain why mary ann was with her grandparents. but i guess if ann was busy working away from home then her parents were just taking care of her daughter.

Thank you again- feel such a dummy now! lol

ooh i thought i recognised the name moxon. i beleive that Ellen Moxon who was Sir William Quiller Orchardson's wife was the daughter of Charles Moxon and one of Ann's sisters Fanny Hopkins.

ooh that may be more than a coincidence! :)

Thanks Ricochet! :D

oh thank you, i didn't know you could leave out the surname i thought you had to put something in. hmm learn something new everyday. thank you very much, that may help with other searches i struggle with in the future.

Thanks for looking for henry too, you never know i may be struck by a moment of genius in a few months and find him by chance when i'm just not looking! :) normally i would search for all his brothers and sisters and parents etc to see if he was with one of them but i don't know his parents so that's a no go, but i will certainly try looking fo his siblings.

thanks again really appreciate it. :)

Leanne, with Ancestry you don't have to put any particular field. Sometimes I just search by dob & pob in case everything is mistranscribed, or they're using a different first name & their surname has been mistranscribed.

I use keywords a lot as well. If you put the registration district of the pob in keywords sometimes you'll find people in a different hamlet near the place you know.

Hi Leanne

You certainly do learn something every day. Today I have learnt exactly what Ozibird is saying - try all combinations, and sometimes no combinations at all. I have been researching a new branch where virtually every surname is mis-spelt in some unimaginable way, and it really does work.

thank you all,

i will try those different searches. i will definately try the keyword search that you advise Ozibird. many of my families are form tiny hamlets so it may help to try the registration ditrict to find them.

thank you all for your help and suggestions, hopefully i may find something new as a result of the new search methods. :D
