I've done a bit of research on my partners family tree and I've been asked by his cousin who's daughter is doing a project in school if I can email her the things I've found out about their family. I have a family tree maker on my laptop but it can't be emailed or opened unless the other person has the same software on their computer.

Does anyone know if there is any family tree software out there that maybe saves the tree in a more common format e.g Word

Have you thought of putting your tree onto free Tribal pages via GEDCOM , then she can access it as an invited guest . It is possible to make it private via a password or delete once she's done with it, There are nice printable options.

thanks Lindsey

Never thought about that as everyone in my family who are interested have access to my tree through genes reunited

I have family tree maker 2008 and if you go into the bit that does diagrams and reports when you design one it gives you the option to email it to others, or at least save the report/printout then email it to others. I know you don't need family tree maker on the computer recieving it because I have emailed my dad updated versions of his tree on a few occassions.

Tribal pages is also a good idea.

Kerin

Have you tried exporting your tree as a Gedcom file, and then e-mailing that? Any half decent genealogy program should be able to read it.

I took the dogs over the park Elaine with G :) - beautiful day.

Well, anyway, I did as instructed by my commandant.

By the way, Glen also said, if anyone needs any more help re family tree software, dont forget there is a dedicated board on the Family Tree Forum

As you have FTM, by far the easiest way is to create a report and save this to disc. Depending on the type of report you decide is most suitable, thais can be either a PDF or a text (word) file.

You then email it as an attachement.

Many of us do this on a regular basis with contacts we have made on here, especially when it is not appropriate to let them have access to our entire tree.
