Death Record Help Smethwick/Birmingham

Has Anyone got time to help me find the death record of my gt gt grandfather JOSEPH HUNT born 1854 in Smethwick Staffordshire, found his wife Clarick died in 1915 aged 60, says on her death cert "wife of" Joseph Hunt, so he must have died after her, I have been through records for 1925-1930 without success, I think that in the 1920's and after deaths in Smethwick were registered in Birmingham and not Kings Norton as previously. Would love to get another ancestor sorted out. Any info gratefully received. Thanks Karen.

Have you tried http://freebmd.rootsweb.com from 1915?

Yes Jonesey this is the correct Joseph Hunt, Clarick is the correct spelling, seems to have been an old family name carried on as far as my Aunt.
The death of Clarick was registered by Mary Jane Mellor, daughter, Clarick died at 8 Poplar Street Smethwick. I don't have access to the 1911 census so haven't been able to look for Joseph at that time.
Thanks Karen.

Well he was still alive in 1911 - this is from the index only, but if you put in Clarick Hunt in the "other members of household" you can determine which other Hunts are in the same dwelling, and Joseph is there. Both Joseph & Clarick seem to have lost a couple of years in age, so the death that Jonesey found above looks good:

HUNT JOSEPH M 1856 55 Kings Norton Worcestershire
HUNT CLARICK F 1857 54 Kings Norton Worcestershire
HUNT JOSEPH M 1889 22 Kings Norton Worcestershire
HUNT GERTY F 1894 17 Kings Norton Worcestershire
HUNT NELLIE F 1897 14 Kings Norton Worcestershire
HUNT BEATRICE F 1899 12 Kings Norton Worcestershire

To Jonesey and Richard in Perth,
Thank you both so much for your help, this does look like the right death Jonesey, I shall send for this death cert to confirm it and let you know, I think it's always nice to tie up loose ends, even if they are not your own!
Richard thanks for using your resources to look at the 1911 census for me, it's very good of you, I have noticed that over the years on lots of my ancestors the ages fluctuate - confusing or what? Your info has also given me an insight into which other members of the family were still living "at home", including my next direct line down Joseph the son.
Something interesting to mull over whilst doing the housework on this wet morning!!
Thanks you all again and to everyone else for their input and advice.
Good wishes Karen

Hi Karen

The 1911 census info that I found above is from the free search results only - if you go to the 1911 website that Pam gave above you can get that amount of info for free. You only need to pay if you want the full transcription or a copy of the original. Anyway, I'm glad it was of use, and fingers crossed that it's the right death cert!

Me Again Richard,
Have sent for the death cert, unfortunately with Easter coming up will take a bit longer to arrive - no I'm not REALLY impatient!
I decided to have a look at the 1911 census site, was able to find names of individuals, but not other members of household as you had listed, I presume that I have to purchase credits for that, or am I missing a field to click on? Sorry to be a pest.
Bye Karen

Hi Karen

It's a bit of a fiddle, but you can usually work out the names of the other people in the household by entering one name in the boxes labelled "other members of the household", and then entering just the surname in the "Personal details" boxes. Normally this will return the names of everyone who is in a house with someone of the name you specified, which isn't much use if it's a common name, but in your case you're lucky as there's only one Clarick Hunt on the entire census. So - just enter her name in the "Other members" section and then just the surname Hunt in the top section, and you'll get the results that I did above.

You can actually narrow down the search, even when you have more common names, by entering the location (even the district or county will help). That's not necessary in this case but it can be useful sometimes!

Cheers
Richard

Thanks for that Richard, I'll give it a go later today and see how I get on, would love to have a go now but must hit the supermarket - know what I would rather be doing!

Hi Richard,
Just to let you know, I had a little play on the 1911 site and did what you suggested - it worked!! I can see myself spending many hours on all sorts of combinations of folk, oh dear more neglected chores.
Thanks again, and Easter Greetings
Good wishes Karen

Hi Richard, Jonesey and all who helped me with this search. Thought I would let you know that the Death Cert for Joseph Hunt arrived today, and the correct one to boot! Very helpful, found he was still living at the Poplar Street address shared with Clarick and the family, although he died in what I know to be Dudley Road Hospital on 4th May 1921. An added bonus is that the informant of the death is one of his daughters I had struggled to find a marriage for, so now have her married name, Frances E. Blount and address in 1921 which is in West Bromwich, birds and stones come to mind!
So a big thanks to all again.
Good Wishes Karen.
