There's also a later hit

Title Bishop's transcripts for Donisthorpe, 1838-1864
Authors Church of England. Chapelry of Donisthorpe (Derbyshire) (Main Author)
Notes Microfilm of original records at the Lichfield Record Office.
Name of the church is St. Johns.
Donisthorpe is a chapelry constituted in 1838 in the parishes of Measham, Church Gresley, Stretton-in-le-Field, in Derbyshire and Seal, and Ashby-de-la-Zouch, in Leicestershire.

You can rent the film to view at your local FHC, which is probably easier than going to Lichfield.

You should also check Lewis's gazetteer entries at:

If the Samuel Wildman came from Measham, the records will be be under Derbyshire. Have 3 in my tree (1713, 1714 and 1723), so you may care to send me a PM.

One other thing to note, Wildman was also spelled Wileman. My g g g grandmother Mary appears under both surname spellings.

I've had a dig around but can find no Samuel Wildman in Leics - plenty elsewhere!!!

Just realised James that you haven't put details on here, - so for others -

Samuel Wildman, Stretton le Field, Leics, 1766

The IGI doesn't have the deaths, but some counties are covered on the National burial Index discs. If you put the name, county and if you know it the town or village,I will look for you

Hi James -

The only information you will be able to find for relatives prior to July 1837 [in England] will be from Parish records.

You can check on the IGI [the website of the Church of the latter day Saints/Mormons - www.familysearch.org] where some parish registers have been transcribed. If they are "extracted records" they are likely to be accurate [although still best to look for yourself] but if they are records that have been "submitted" by a member of the Church, the information is suspect and often fanciful.

would you care to give us the name, relevant dates and location?

Blue1 Report 7 Apr 2009 15:34

Hi James,
try the LDS link below,if you can find an extracted record as opposed to a submitted one, they are as good really as an old parish record,if you wanted to buy the OPR you would have found where look so saving you time.
