Many Thanks Rambling Rose, will definitely check that out.

Many Thanks for the offer Jeanette but I have access to ancestry and with the help of Linda have found a lead on another site.

Best Wishes

This site is wortha look at

http://www.firstworldwar.com/index.htm

It has diaries and letters, details of the battles, photographs of the battlefields then and now , memorials ....

For example:

16th Irish Division Memorial, Wytschaete (Ypres Salient)
18th Div Memorial, Clapham Junction (Ypres Salient)
18th Div Memorial, Thiepval (Somme)

This is an incredible web site in its scope from the brief look I have had thus far.

Hi Jane 123

If you don't want to put his details on the open board, send a pm to one of us and we could have a look for you.

You can also google 2nd Dragoon Guards and see what information you can get there. I got some service records from the Grenadier Guards which weren't on ancestry but you will have to pay a fee.

Good luck.

If you post his name, age and where he came from on here, someone can look for you. It is possible that his service records or medal card or war pension details are on Ancestry, but as has been stated many of the records have not survived

Jonesey has already said that ww1 records can be be searched on ANCESTRY.CO.UK.

If you are not a member, Tell us his name and we can take a look.

You maybe lucky and his was one of the records that was not destroyed in ww2 bombing.

Richard.

Hi Jonesey

It was the first world war. He was injured at Marne/Aisne I think. Very lucky to have lived by all accounts!!

Is there a website where I can track where he might have gone during his term of action?

Many Thanks

Jane

Hi All,

Any ideas where I can obtain the war record of my great grandfather, please? He served in B Battalion of 2nd Dragoon Guards.

Any hints, greatfully received.

Many thanks

Jane
