Hiya

I was wondering if some kind soul would give me their insight please.

I have a death cert for G Great grandmother Frances Platts died 1955 aged 90. Informant was son Robert Platts (with his address & occupation that matches).
I then have son, Roberts death cert 1977 ( same address & occupation) informant was SIL. Ernest Leslie Porter living same address in Chesterfield.
I have found a marriage for Ernest L Porter to Frances Jane L Platts in 1958.
I then found both Frances Jane L Porter death in 1994 as well as husband Ernest L Porter in 1998.
I confirmed all this via cremortoiriam records as well as BMD .
records show that Frances is Frances Jane Lucy Porter nee Platts.I believe that they had no children.

All is good- however- I can not find a birth reference for daughter Frances, apparently she was born 28/11/1926 not sure where.
I intend to to purchase marriage cert & both SIl's death as well as Frances's death cert.
So basically i am looking for a birth cert reference circa 1926/1927 for a Frances Jane Lucy Platts probably Derbyshire/ Nottingham area.
Any suggestions would be great
thanks
Sophia.

When and where was Robert Platt born and his mother's maiden name?

Hiya

Robert Platts born 27/3/1894 Ashby De la Zouch son to Robert (1861-1899) & Frances Edwards (1865-1955).

Robert married a Hannah Henshaw & they had two children one in 1915 & one in 1920, I then lose the family until Frances death in 1955 followed by son Roberts death in 1977.

I think that Robert must have had another daughter Frances Jane Lucy Platts 1926/1927 but as i can't find a birth refernece for her then i can't work out if she is the daughter of Hannah or if Hannah died & Robert remarried.

I hope this make sense!
let me know what you think please.

Hello Jim

Yes the two births are:

Robert William Platts born 28/5/1915 mm name Henshaw born 156 Doe Lea,Ault Hucknall,Mansfield.

Peggy Platts born 6/2/1920 mm name Hensahw, New cottages,Doe Lea,Ault Hucknall.

I have both of these birth certs but also:
Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page
Births Jun 1915 (>99%)
Platts Robert W Henshaw Mansfield 7b 201

Births Mar 1920 (>99%)
Platts Peggy Henshaw Mansfield 7b 217

I know that by 1955 Robert ( 1894-1977) was living at -The Bungalow,Mansfield road,Heath,Chesterfield.
I had real problems with the Ault Hucknal but basically Doe Lea is a stones throw from the 'Bungalow'.Mansfield Road,Heath,Chesterfield.
Frances is buried in the church yard up the road from the bungalow ( which is now derelict) whilst son Robert & his daughter Frances & Sil were cremated & ashes were at Chesterfield crematorium.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Sophia.

Hi Jim

Yes I did see that, I was wondering-
do you think its possible that Frances J L Mowbray later became a Platts ( step daughter) to Robert and raised as a Platts. I would imagine that if that is the case -her marriage cert ( when I get it) would show both her birth name as well as her aka, what do you think?

I cant find any marriage for a Robert Platts to a Mowbray though.

Thanks for your time on this
Sophia.

Hi Sophia

I would not rely on the marriage certificate showing her birth name as opposed to the name of the step-father. My grandfather was born George White but his father died when he was 18 months old, His mother remarried to John Anderson when George was 3. He took his step-father's name and was ever afterwards known as George Anderson. On the marriage certificate to my grandmother, he not only gives his name as George Anderson, but also gives his father's name as John Anderson - no mention of poor Peter White, long since dead and buried.

Just as well his story had been handed down through the family or I might never have found his birth!

Hi Tina
Ah- I guess that I thought that because the second child to Robert Platts & Hannah Henshaw born 1920 was 'adopted' ( prior to official adoption in 1927) when she married she put Peggy Wilson otherwise Peggy Platts on her marriage cert.

I wonder did your grandfather actually know that he wasn't born a White? Is it possible that he was raised as an Anderson and whithout knowing this put Anderson as his father? Lucky for you that your family passed this on else you would have had a fine old time trying to find him!

It gets quite complicated but I think that Robert & Hannah had the two children however Peggy was conceived during the war and for whatever reason you may guess at was given away, my thoughts then turn to what happen to the family, did Robert & Hannah separate& Robert have another family?

Going round in circles now- maybe the new certs will help when i get them!

Hi Rose

That indeed looks a very likely family for Frances J L Mowbray that Jim posted earlier however I have now searched through from 1926 to 1945 ( my guess as to when if they married- time frame to adoption for Frances to become a Platts) and I still cannot find a marriage for a Robert Platts to a Mowbray or a Goodwin or anything else remotly likely. Will just have to wait for the certs anhd go from there.

Thank you all for your time with this I do appreciate it.

Sophia.
