Hi

On a marriage certificate I have just received, it lists the bride and groom as being of "full" age. Is this 18 or 21?

The date is 1852.

Hi Alli

Full age at that time was 21. "Coming of Age" only dropped to 18 in 1970.

remember Allison, though the cert. says "full age" it dosn`t mean the bride and groom actually were...........many would lie about their age, as under 21 you needed permission from a parent.

It means they are at least 21 - so you cant actually work out dates of birth from it as they could be in their dotage and still be of full age.
