PME,
Thank for that info, I would have kept wondering.
I too have lots of ancestors in Sculcoates. Although I have not personally been there, one day when I'm in the UK. I understand that its a nice place by what I have read about it.

The deleted message basically said they had visted Sculcoates, the church graveyard was over grown and that there was really nothing of interest in the area/not much there. I felt such an innacurate portayal of the area needed correcting.

I always look at threads that mention Sculcoates as a lot of my paternal ancestors are from that particular registration district.

Thank you all for your lively interest.

Portland Rose - It could well be Boteler Street and I will 'google earth ' and see where Gibson Street is. Thanks.

PME - I as I didn't see the deleted messages, pity. I had not thought of West Sculcoates as being a village.

Jim - Thank you for your help 1851 census and Boteler street at least now I know I have been reading the certificate right. It really was a street.

Once again thanks to all who answered my query

As far as I knew Sculcoates was a regsitration district in Hull, looking at the records for my ancestors registered in that district (address's at the time of birth, marriage and death) that area is alive and well today and takes in several churches.

I went to the University of Hull, started doing my family history after I left, but walked down many of the streets my ancestors lived on unknowingly as a student.. So unless the area's be wiped out and there was no news coverage of this major event in the past 5 years then I have to disagree with the comments made that theres not much there............I mean honestly just check out google earth!

Now there may be a villiage call Sculcoates somewhere but this is not the place I think hooked on genealogy is refering to.

There's a Boteler Street. It's now Gibson Street.

According to 2x great grandfather’s birth cert he was born at Botelor Street, West Sculcoates, Hull in 1842.
I have Googled Botelor Street and variations of the name and not found any thing with a street of that name. Also tried old maps still nothing.
Anyone got any ideas.
Thanks Ann
