The seller is in Bognor Regis, so that supports that. It is dated July 25th 86. The seller doesn't know whether this is 1786 or 1886.

Every so often I like to browse antique embroidery on ebay and have just discovered this, complete with photo:

Item number: 120405027530 "Antique Sampler by Elizabeth Slapley age 13"

A quick check of the BMD shows there was indeed an Elizabeth STAPLEY (not Slapley) b 1873 SeptQ in Hackney. Unfortunately I've not been able to pass the tip onto a related GR member who might be interested.

One very nice GR member once alerted me to a family bible connected with someone in my tree and, although it went for much higher a price than I could afford, I did benefit from the page scan listing several births, deaths and marriages!
