I agree with Jill, all my detail is kept off line, I only have name, year and place of birth / death / marriage on GR, I don't have any exact dates and all living people are hidden on my off line tree before I upload. That way I don't have to worry about who to open my tree to.

My tree on here is really basic info only. No notes, no real detail at all. Just the bare bones.

I tell contacts this and explain that all the info is in my offline tree. They're welcome to look at my tree on here as it would confirm (or otherwise) any links.

If they are linked and they are serious - and not just a name collector - then they can ask me for the info. Always happy to share, copy certs etc.

All that name collectors will get is just the bare bones ...

Yes it happens and people get really annoyed with it . I only open my tree if i am really sure there is a definite link and then sometimes if its a connection on the fringe of my tree then I know that its only relevant for a small part so I offer instead a genealogy print out off my FTM for the part they may be interested in. I keep more on my FTM anyway .

Why do some people ask to view your tree, you give them access and ask if you can view theirs but before you have time to look through their tree they turn your access off.

It seems they take what information they want from your tree and then stop you veiwing theirs.

Has anyone else experienced this.
