Many thanks for your replies. Yes it does seem to correspond as Quarry worker.

old occupations site shows two variations:-
Delfman Sold "Delf", which is earthenware from Delft, Holland.
Delfsman / Delphman Worker in quarries or open pits, usually quarrying stone
However if you google Delfman it only comes up with the quarry worker as an explanation

Hi sox1
Delf/delft means a kind of glazed earthenware decorated in colours, especially blue. So something to do with Pottery.

Just a term for someone selling the pottery from Delft ( blue and white) usually with a windmill painted on.
