Yes, good luck Derek - once you have qualified I have an ultimate brick wall for you to sort out :) GGPX4 - no sign of them before a settlement cert in 1760 - so when you get your wings, Ill be your first client.

Probably best to start off with your local Family History Society?

Though Derek, there are people on here who have spent decades researching and still wouldnt have the confidence to actually set up business :) And Im sure you have more than a list of names and dates, hopefully most of us have more than that!

thanks guys

i am under no illusion that this is just like fiddling with my own family tree.
I have spent 4 years researching my families genealogy and it was more than just names on trees. i researched more than that! I have the skills and want to get the right qualification so i can start off.
I have requested to do voluntary work for the "real" genealogists so i can gain more experience.

any other advice would be great

:) ta :)

Have a read of this (it's someone else asking the same sort of thing):-

I think to charge people to do research you will have to have qualifications as there are plenty of "amateurs" on here who will do some digging for nothing.

I think its a lot harder than most of us imagine Derek. Its ok fiddling about with our own and helping others but most real genealogists can read ancient languages including latin and spend an awful lot of time travelling all over the country for solid facts from parish records and other sources.
