How would I go about finding my Irish Ancestory? I have the following details but wouldnt know where to start to find their birth certificates or other details as I've never traced any Irish relatives before:
the names are William McGarr c1860 County Mayo and Ann Fallon c1860 County Clair, I have no certificates to prove they come from there but do have a living relative that remembers them as they were her grandparents and she has told me of their coming to the UK (Lancashire/Manchester) but I have no idea of how to look for information on ships or for birth certificates in Ireland. If anybody can help I would be more than greatful xx

It is very difficult getting info on Irish ancestry - if you go to www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search you will find the 1911 census free!! also there are several threads on here mainly from 'Teresa with Irish blood in me veins' you will need to do a search, as she has listed several websites which may assist you.
Good Luck

You won't find any info on ships coming from Ireland to England, Scotland or Wales as Ireland was part of the UK until the 1920s so no records were kept.

The Record Pilot Search on the familysearch site has Irish BMD indexes from 1845 (Click on Search, then Record Pilot Search)
