Bear in mind there was no formal adoption system prior to 1927

The previous entry in the same quarter is for Edward Jones born Durham 10a 478 so I guess this is the original entry prior to amendment

Thanks Potty.
This is the census and although it says adopted son I'm not sure if he really is adopted.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 27 Apr 2009 12:20

It means there has been an alteration/amendment to the birth entry,,,,,,,which can be part of a mistake of GRO or more official one.

Potty Report 27 Apr 2009 12:17

Probably that the birth was registered late, after the local office had sent its returns to the GRO. Are there any other children on the same page?

Please can someone advise me?

I have this birth reference

Births Jun 1908
Jones Edward Durham 10a 520a

but what does the "a "mean after the page number.

I ask because I have found that one of my ancesters adopted a child Edward Jones born Coxhoe Durham and was wondering if this may be his birth reference.

Thankyou

Brenda
