Denise Report 29 Apr 2009 09:56

I did have Macafee on my old computer, but not my new one.
Macafee have charged to my visa account £55.29p for what I do not have.
I have tried emailing then with no success.
Visa cannot help either.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just been into my Account and found this information which might help you.

How do I cancel the automatic renewal option on my account?

Summary: This document explains the McAfee Always On Protection program, or automatic renewal, and how to cancel it if desired.
Description

I've just cancelled my automatic renewal via their Chat system. You have to download it once you have submitted a query and then you can chat away to one of their personnel.

I made sure I copied our conversation on to a word doc and I've just received email confirmation from them too.

I hope you get a refund from them as they usually send emails when renewals are due.

Rather than waiting till at least 6pm tonight to phone the United States, I will try your way Teresa.
Thanks for the advice.
Unless I am reimbursed before the 4th May, I will have to pay.

Teresa, go check your visa account!

I'll be back, Denise

Hi Denise,

thanks for letting us know about this. I have used MacAfee for a few years and they have always sent reminder emails when my renewal became due, until now at least. I shall be watching very closely from now on. I am very glad you made me aware of this as I never realised their Always On policy referred to automatic renewals. I wrongly assumed it referred to the security services paid for being always on.

One problem I have had with them is that I paid for 12 months cover from their Total Protection product which included security for my wireless network. During that period I had a problem with my computer and it had to be replaced. When it came to downloading my paid for services to my new computer I couldn't find the wireless security so I contacted them through their email/chat service and was told they no longer offered this cover. I asked them why my cover did not continue until my next renewal date as they were changing the product after I had paid for it and was told they no longer offer wireless cover and there is nothing they could do about it. I now check the MacAfee security centre regularly to make sure that the security services I have paid for and I think are operating actually are as I have no idea when they withdrew their wireless cover and whether my wireless network was left unsecure before I became aware of it,

I will be watching MacAfee even more closely now.

Thanks again,
Caz

Thanks for "flagging" this issue up Denise.
I have just emailed the crafty so and so's to remove the auto renewal from my account. If you had not posted this thread I would have wondered why McAfee had took my money next year.

Thanks

Denise

My renewal wouldn't have been due until much later on in the year so thanks for flagging up this problem.

I shall be keeping copies of their emails and my conversation with the girl on their 'Chat' when I asked for my auto renewal to be cancelled......just in case!

If they are not careful, they will be getting a bad name for themselves!
