You haven't found a how-to-use guide because there isn't one.

Many of the boards have threads posted by members giving tips on how best to use the site ...... but there is very little put out by GR

You can remove your own posts by clicking on the Delete button which is at the bottom left of your OWN posts. There is also an Edit button there so you can edit your OWN posts.

You remove your own thread by clicking on the Delete button on your header message.

You cannot close a thread ............... but you can alter the heading to add Sorted if you so wish

You cannot remove anyone else's thread

In fact, many people prefer not to have posts and threads removed ........... it is always possible that you or someone else might want to refer back to a post or thread to check something ....... and after all, they are not stored on yoru own computer but on the GR site.

Stickies can only be put in place by GR ..... and they are very restrictive about what they will stickie. Many of us have asked a number of times for Tips threads to be stickied at the top of the help boards, but they refuse to do it.

GR does NOT notify you of any postings or responses on threads ......... if you look at the left of your screen you will see a box headed TOOLS. In that box is My Threads ..... click on that and it will bring up a list of all threads you have started or posted on and that is how you find those threads. Use the Bookmark to mark threads that you particularly want to keep track of.

All the help on these boards is provided by other members of GR, all doing it out of love for the hobby and using their own subscriptions in various other sites to help others..

If you do post a request please stick around for at least 10 or 15 minutes ....... it is almost guaranteed that someone will attempt to respond to your query within minutes (or even seconds!), and that person might have a question for you to clarify something or ask for more information. People from all around the world are members of GR and so there is almost always someone around at all hours of the day and night.

At the moment, there is no alternative access to the 1911 census, Finf My Past have the monopoly.

Hi Annie,

Unfortunately the 1911census.co.uk is the only site at the moment, Findmypast have indicated they will put it on there soon (how soon?) as part of a different subscription package. The other subscription sites will have to wait as FMP have the sole rights at present, once the whole census is transcribed, then FMP have sole rights I believe for another year and then have to make the images only available to other companies for them to add their own transcriptions.

So will be some time before another site gets hold of a working package.
