My gg g/father's brother in law was a prisoner in the Clerkenwell prison when the 1851 census were taken and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I could find out what he was in prison for as he was only 23 at the time.

Hi Elizabeth, Have you googled the name of the prison and the date. Brings up some interesting options. You haven't given any names so we can't search. Have a go at the google and see what you find.

Many thanks for that and while I'm at it do you know how to find out about adoptions in the UK. My cousin's father was adopted and as he has now passed away she would like to find out. Sue's parents divorced when she a young child.
