HOT MATCHES - NEW or NOT NEW

"New" means there are new names matched, not that this is a new match with that member for the first time.

The Hotmatch program does not know if you have been in contact before when it updates, but the screen display will tell you if you have or not with a Yes or No.

And as Island said, these people are not contacting you - GR's program is suggesting that you might have the same names in your trees - it is up you you to make the contact should you wish.

there does seem to be a glitch in the Hot matches sometimes as I have contacted some before which say we havent been in contact but we have. . Sometimes I have noticed it says NO but I recognise the name and know we have already corresponded before.Cant tell you why it happens though.Trouble is with pages off Hot matches its not always easy to remember previous contacts and one has to rely on the Yes/No box

Why do I get so many people contacting me as a supposedly new contact when we have already exchanged messages and access to each tree has been granted?
I wondered if it's because I update my tree regularly from a GEDcom file and Genes is unable to recognise this.
I always thought that if there was NEW! against a name in Hot Matches it just meant that a new person had been added to their tree - it didn't mean they are a new contact - perhaps the YES under "In my Contacts" changes to a NO.
Anyone else suffering the same problem - I'm on holiday now until 16th but will be interested to read the comments on my return .

And why is this message box not scrolling properly!!!!!!
