hi
i managed to get full service records from my granfather in the coldstream guards in 1923, you have to prove you are next of kin and have to fill a form in. If you look on genes for arm records, someones has the address. You can then see if they stil;l have them
thanks

Thanx shirley didn,t think of it quite that way round!
He was in the 2nd west yorkshire regiment based at Sobraon Barracks on his marraige cert and he made it back from the war because my grandad was born 1920.His regiment were sent to india in 1921 is there anyway i could find out if he went or not, there was no more children after my grandad and apparently he never lived with his parents so this makes me wonder if he went away and didnt come back again

Maybe his children married after that date and gave their parental address on their marriage certificate.
You could check the old electoral lists for the address ( at a main library or archive local to the address) and see whether great grandfather is listed there and for how long.

you need to work back to him . when did one of his children marry and is he recorded as deceased on any of their certs. this may give you a time frame for his death. Unfortunately deaths can only be searched by the year and qtr if they arent recorded yet on FreeBMD
