HOUSEHOLD WELFORD ALICE NELLIE F 1878 33 Headington Oxfordshire
HOUSEHOLD WELFORD CICELY DORIS F 1904 7 Headington Oxfordshire
HOUSEHOLD WELFORD EDWIN JAMES M 1876 35 Headington Oxfordshire
HOUSEHOLD WELFORD ENID MARY F 1909 2 Headington Oxfordshire

Is this the correct family? No other brothers and sisters that I can see in the same household I'm afraid.

This would be the marriage of the parents.

Hi Rachel

There were a lot of Welford's born in Headington but looking at the mothers maiden names after 1911 at a guess I would say there were at least three Welford families having children in the early 1900's.

If this is the correctfamily given earlier you would need to buy the marriage certificate to confirm the father. However, this may be Edwin J Welford in 1881

Actually, if you purchase credits for the 1911 as suggested by Helen, the original page/transcript would give place of birth and will verify (or otherwise) the above information.

If the place of birth is the same then this would be Edwin's birth registration

Rachel perhaps doesn't know how to search the 1911 census, and I am not an expert. Can NinjaLady please tell us how you pulled up the four family members?

I know how to search for an individual, but now how to find family members without paying.

Maggie,

You have to use the "Other members of the household section".

Put in Enid Mary Welford there and then just Welford for the "Personal details". This will return all Welfords that have an Enid Mary Welford.

I too wondered how to show other names in the same household .

Thanks Portland Rose I will give it a go. I have already spent more than I can afford.

PS Well not sure what I did wrong but followed the advise and all I got was the name I typed in . I used Enid Mary Welford as a trial

Okay,

On this page:

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

Just put the surname Welford for the "last Name" part of "Personal details "

Then put Enid Mary Welford for "Other members of the household "

You should see Alice, Cecily and Edwin.

In this instance, the name is fairly uncommon so there's no need to list anything like town or registration district where it says "Residential Place".

Hiya Ladies

Sorry I didn't get back to you - that was way past my bedtime!!!! As Portland Rose said, in this case you didn't need the place of residence.

If you need any more help with searching the 1911 just send me a message and I'll help you find what you're looking for.

Regards

Thanks for the pointers on searching the 1911 census.

For the benefit of those who have only just learnt the technique, I've now had a "play" with the method and realise it isn't perfect (but free!).

For example, it won't show other people in the household with a different surname (e.g. mother in law, married daughter), and if there is more than one household with an Enid Mary Welford, the members of all such households will be shown. Therefore if you know one of the members has an unusual name it makes sense to use that in the search.

everyone, if you want to find everyone in household with a different surname, providing the person you know has a relatively unusual name (middle names help), you can use the same technique, but just use surnames starting with A, then B, then C etc, admittedly you have to do this 26 times, but I found that a great aunt of my husband's was with her maternal grandmother in 1911 (they had different surnames)
