WW1 /2 death certs

I have seen some say it isnt worth while getting death certs for WW casualties as it wont tell you any more than the info on CWGC. This isnt always the case and may well be worth getting certs.
I am researching my OH maternal side at the mo and his Gran had a brother who died in 1916 in Mesopotamia and according the the CWGC site he is buried in Baghdad Cemetery. I found his ref on Army deaths on FMP site and decided to send for the cert which arrived this morning AND he wasnt a Battle casualty but died aged 29 of Intermittent Fever SO getting these certs can sometimes give you info you didnt have

Shirley,
I didn't realise you could get death certs for those killed during WW1. After reading your post I went on the FMP website and found my Uncles Ref nos.Do you order these from the same GRO as regular certs or is there a different site .

You order from the GRO. On the first page it will ask you what type of certificate. Remember to tick the "overseas deaths" and tick "yes" when it asks if you have the GRO reference.

Only from memory (it's a while since I ordered mine) they take about the same amount of time as any certificate.

Sorry i didnt reply to you Sue.The last time i looked at this thread it only had the one reply.Just looked in again and saw the additional . I ordered on the 2nd May with other certs and the despatch was down for 11th May. Was pleased to get this one cert yesterday the 8th so am hoping for more today in the post.
As Kath said you tick Overseas deaths and tick the box for GRO known then add the info where asked .It is slightly different boxes from UK certs but having stated its an overseas record it does the box differences automatically
I am glad I got this cert cos the information on my FTM for our William will be accurate PLUS his age is down as unknown on the CWGC site and I have it now as 29 which ties nicely with his birth cert.
He isnt "owned" on the CWGC so I am going to send them all his info so he can be linked now with his parents. He didnt marry so it would be nice to see him claimed
