My g.grandfather died in South Africa in 1909 in a mining accident. Could anyone please tell me if a death cert. would have to be issued here as I can't find any record of one. Also where could I find out more information about this accident. One of my uncle's thinks he was buried in the local parish churchyard but I can't find any record of this.

Any help would be grateful as this man is driving me nuts!!!!

If he died in South Africa and he wasn't in the army then I don't think a death certificate would be issued in England. I'm pretty sure his death would have been registered in South Africa.

Thanks Kathleen. Didn't think a death cert. would be issued here as well, but I think he was buried here.

What was his name?

you could try and find the death notice in South Africa, or see if he had any deceased estate, these documents will give you a lot of information.

If you let me know his name i will have a look for any record of a death notice or deceased estate.
