Need advice? How can you add all the information from another persons tree? Instead of copying everything and inputting it one person at a time? There must be a quicker way????

Why would you want to just copy someone tree lock stock & barrel?

You need to add person by person checking facts as you go

Kyle, it's because of people coping entire tree that a lot of members will no longer give others access to their trees.

You would never know if the other peron's info is correct unless you checked it

Your tree would contain a load of names totally unconnected to you

You wouldn't even know you new family's names let alone their family history

You'd just become a "name collector"

I agree with the others. Why on earth would you want to copy someone else's tree? It could be full of mistakes. Some people just grab the first name that looks likely and say "Yes that must be my gt. grandfather". I wouldn't add a name to my tree until I have checked the source and made sure it's correct.

Hi Kyle,

There is no easy way to create your family tree since by their very nature, trees grow very slowly but the action of inputing the data via keyboard can help you to better understand your ancestors as you sift through all the census, birth ,death certificates etc.

I mean what is the point of a family tree if you know nothing about how and where they lived and died.
You might as well just get a collection of telephone directories!

I am presently re-inputing data into my tree after a computer crash ......Yes I should have saved it and yes It is painful, but I do have most of the information and lots of time.
Well at least until I become a certificate !

There are many who claim descent from Alfred the Great with all documentation and then of course there is a guy in USA who is reaching 5,000,000 on his "tree"

It all depends on what you want out of it as I take great pleasure in having found all of our "skeletons" and gave my mother copies of certificates with a rough tree of her blood line, just in case she became a certificate before I finished it.

It does take a lot of time and a fair amount of money to put it all together so yes it is tempting to grab a tree, just make sure you don`t leave yourself out on a limb.
You know, when granny asks why her mum was married three times after her diamond wedding anniversary and went on to have six kids!

Good luck

Kyle
Get the other person to send you a Gedcom.
you can then merge the two trees on your computer.
