It might be worth contacting Barnardos or the Children's Society.

My father was in a home in Kent from 1906-1913, and I was lucky to know that it was a Waifs and Strays Home, which comes under the umbrella of the Children's Society now. They provided me with a precis of his file, which was closed in 1913. It was magic to me!

Perhaps contacting the local history department of Warrington Library may give you some clues on the names of the homes at the time you are researching.

i have just tried that and he is still listed as living at home then, so it looks like he went into the home slightly later than I thought.

so i guess i need to work out how i search for the childrens home record

Your first course of action could be to check the 1911 census, where the name should appear.

Hi

I have a grandparent who was in a childrens homearound 1910 - 1916 that i believe was in Warrington - has anyone any ideas how I can go about tracking down the records?
