Hi Jim,
Thanks again, but different address, so probably not my Moore's.
Thank you so much for all your help and patience with me and my computer and my Moore Family. At least I know the other son was not born until after 1901.
best wishes

Island And Jim,
I am so sorry for the late reply my computer keeps freezing and the only way to rectify it seems to be to turn it off for a while,so this is why I havn't replied.
Thanks for the information , I don't recognize any of the other Moore's on page 12 as being mine, can you tell if they are living at the same address as the Moore's on page 13,

Thankyou for your time

Thank you for replying mgnv , and sorry for my late reply,

My problem with this family is I know they had 2 more children , 1 after 1901 who I have accounted for and another son, but I have no idea if he was born before or after 1901.
If anyone could help I would be most grateful as I don't have ancestry, the family are.
Duncan Moore b.1866
Mary wife b. 1872
Mary daughter b.1892
Duncan son b. 1895
Alexandrina daughter b. 1898
Mabel daughter b. 1896.
Living at 12, John Carrick Street, Springburn , Glasgow.
Thank you
jean

The usual order is Head, Wife, kids in age descending order, then other rellies, including mothers and fathers. Married children might be saved until other children are dealt with, and then appear with their own spouse and kids in a sort of mini-household. Ancestry, and the LDS get confused as to where a household begins/ends if the head of the household doesn't identify themselves as head, but as wife, say. (This is not unusual in Aberdeenshire fishing towns/villages). I've seen the same confusion on SP with their old 1881 census, but whether they've got it sorted now they have 1881 images, I've not checked.

Incidentally, partial transcriptions of Scottish censuses (marital status and maybe language/disability are omitted) are available on Ancestry, so if you were to post more details someone could check if your household was split over two pages.

I have seen families listed on the census' where they have not been listed in order, though, as a rule, the Head always comes first.
Hope you find them all.

Helen in Bucks

Helen in Bucks Report 19 May 2009 17:43

generally speaking the first name in a household is the head of the household, each household is generally separated by a horizontal slash line and each dwelling by a double horizontal slash line

I haven't come across a member of the same household being on a previous page, but this doesn't mean that they might not be related

if you post the census reference year, RG11 number, folio, page etc I am sure someone will have a look for you

Thelma

Thelma Report 19 May 2009 17:41

Normally the head is first but give us the family and we can check the previous page.

Does any one know if on a census sheet the first name to appear is the father then mother and childrens' names in age order would it be possible for another one of their children to be on the page before. If that makes sense.

thanks
jean

The father is the very first one at the top of the page.
