And the plonkers that made the CD did not add a key to the abreviations used on that CD. Smart or what.

Well in the end none of us got it right. Yet the answer is so simple lol

Verse Not Recorded.

Any verse inscribed on the headstones was not transcribed onto the CD.

Who'da thought it?? lol

Definitely no abbreviations on the CD. I've been through it again and again.

Anyway, I tried to find a phone number or e-mail address for the FHS for that area, but only came up with a home address for the Hon. Sec. so I have written her a letter which has gone by snail mail. I enclosed an SAE and also gave her my phone number and e-mail address, so hopefully she will get back to me soon. I think it has confused and intrigued us all.

Will update if and when I know any more.

That may well be the reason, Dianne......I didn't see all of the thread, but I know from past instances that some people's idea of 'funny' can often seem vulgar.

Dianne,

I am still not convinced that this Horace tag is common enough or sentimental enough to appear as an abbreviation on tombstones. Are you sure that your CD does not have a key to its abbreviations?

The only thing I can think of is that we must have unintentionally caused offence to someone. Before the real meaning was discovered we were having a bit of a laugh with daft meanings that VNR could have stood for.

Apologies to anyone we might have upset in this way.

It has gone from my threads. How strange.

Ricochet Report 21 May 2009 22:24

Can't imagine why it would be deleted..only yourself and GR can do that.

Have you looked under 'My threads' in the Tools box to the left?

Hi again, I can't find my original thread anywhere so it must have been whooshed for some reason???

Anyway to update you all. The family priest is actually dead, I thought he was still here by the way a relative refers to him, but it seems he passed in the 1980's.

So, I e-mailed the local Monumental Mason and asked if they had any idea. I have just had a reply back (very impressive prompt service), and they have said the same as Ron said - words to the effect "No signs of any returning". So that seems to be definite now.

Thank you all for your help over the last couple of days.
