Hi,
Please can someone help me find Mary Ann Ponton/Ponting.
and her father John

According to 1861 census she was born Dartford Kent abt 1825. At this time she was married to Alfred Everson living in Plumstead Kent.
Her marriage certificate states surname Ponting but a birth record of one of her children states her surname as Ponton!

I shall be very grateful for help as I do not seem to be gettting anywhere.

Many thanks Rose

Hi Jim
Thank you but I have that info. Are you able to look back futher and find Mary and possibly her father John?

I am sorry but I only know from the census that Mary was born in Dartford Kent and have no knowledge of where her parents came from. Thought there may be an 1841 census of the family as Mary did not marry until 1848?

Many thanks Rose

In the household of Anne Culling, milliner.

Don't know if this is her. There's one other Mary Ponton, also Canterbury with a family which has George Ponton as head.

Ozi.

Hi Blossom

According to the marriage certificate it states father John Ponting and his occupation is Miller in (in 1848)

Hi Ozibird

The 1841 census of Mary Parton looks promising although there is not a John listed as her brother. I would think the surname is misspelled though. Also there was a 2 year age difference btwn them and its William in the household at that age and not John!

Oh gosh this isnt an easy one is it.

Thank you both very much but I am still unsure as one fits but not another!

Hi Ozibird, Yes that thread is yours truly I am afraid.

I did not want to request both surnames, having all the info on Alfred was a lot to digest and I thought it easier to ask separately.

I have heard back from the person on gencom and he has sent me a four page dossier on the Everson family with a history of the area which I found very interesting, even how much Mary Everson was given to live on.
He thought it was quite brutal how Elizabeth was treated.

Its very interesting that the Parton family have a boarder who is a Smith as Alfred was too. Wonder if that is how they met?

Thank you so much for your help

Rose,

No worries about 2 threads. You're right, this one is following a different lead & people wouldn't be repeating stuff. I just thought it might give searchers a little background.

Mary is being very elusive in 1841. There is only that one family of Pontons, James & Lydia, in the Dartford area.

Hi Ozibird

If the 1841 census where John Ponton is listed, where would Mary have been? Did think she could have been working elsewhere but Canterbury is quite a way from Dartford if it was her working for Ann Culling. Did they travel far to work in those days?

Mary Parton and her family are also Dartford same as John Pontin. Swanscombe is about a 20 min car ride from Hextable near Dartford as my nephew lives there. I am very drawn on the Parton family but only because they have a blacksmith living with them and Marys husband was a smith, also her father is John. But then there is so called brother John who is listed on the census with Mary and her husband.

Her surname can be so misleading especially if it was read out to someone ,as we have Ponting,Ponton and Parton. There was me thinking it would be fairly easy as its an unusual name, how wrong was I!

My choice is tracing Mary Parton with father John or tracing the John Ponton family, great!!! lol

Thank you so much for your help, its really appreciated.
