Thank you Teresa for your advice. Sadly the marriage was two years before registration was required. I also checked out the IGI records but no joy there either.

Tracing the Irish ancestors is so much harder than the English ones.

Hi Carol

Go to either of the Irish GRO's and read about when Civil Registrations began.

http://www.groireland.ie/
For Southern Ireland (Eire)

http://www.groni.gov.uk/index.htm
For Northern Ireland

Without knowing which County they married in...you will not be able to order a cetificate..

Howevery..you can try searching the IGI records on
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

You Might find a birth record for a child.....
Put in both parent's names under where it says 'Father's & Mother's names and then go down to the Region and select British Isles, then Ireland and All Counties. If that doesn't work, try again, but this time don't put in the Mother's surname.

Of course the IGI records are by no means complete, but always worth a look for any Irish ancestors.

I have found 3 of my Gran's eldest siblings births on there, but that was 1860/70's.

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how I go about obtaining marriage details for my gg grandparents, ELLEN HUGHES and ROBERT ATKIN. Ellen was born in Co Offaly, Ireland abt 1825. They were married abt 1843 but I don't know where. They are both buried in Clonminch Protestant Cemetery so I presume they were Church of Ireland or Wesleyans.

Fond regards
