Thanks Claire,
i'll have another bash tomorrow.
I only realised that every one could see my tree ,when, because i have two trees on there,a match came up for my dad and i had a look.It was my other tree with all my pics on it.So i suppose i should hide all the living people.
Shame because my family get a kick out of seeing themselves on it.

Hi Blue

I found the privacy options through the managing your tree. There was an option called tree privacy.

I dont have any issues with people using any information off my tree. I just wont put any pictures/certificates scans etc on there.

Anything on my tree was found by researching parish records so its all out there to be found if people went and researched it.

Im new to the ancestry tree so wasnt sure what options I had with it.

Again, many thanks for the help.

As discussed recently on another thread, once you put your tree on any website you have to accept that others may see it and use the information in a way that you may not like.

The problem is the same wether or not you allow the entire world to see it or just a handful, simply because you have no control over what happens to afterwards.

Hi All

Many thanks for responding and thank you all for the guidance.

I shall look at the invite options and hopefully get it so that I can invite the contact to see but keep it private.

Thanks
Claire

Claire you can just open it as Jil says for one person, go to where it says
Invite Family Members (rt hand side of page at bottom when on your own tree)

I thought you could invite them to view it. Or, if they look for your tree - they will see it marked as private and can then send you a message. I assume that you could then open it for them but keep it private for everyone else.

Hi,

I have my tree on ancestry set to private. I want to open my tree to a contact but are you able to do this or do you have to make your tree public for everyone to see?

Any guidance is much appreciated.
