A Williams in Wales?

I'm struggling to even make a start on my grandfather's family as I don't want to jump to conclusions and chase the wrong Williams'. I have my grandparents marriage cert

11/10/1924

William Henry Williams, 35, ironworker, living in Flint,

father Henry Williams, (possibly - greengrocer)

Elizabeth Roberts, 31, living in Rhyl,

father Cornelius Roberts, labourer.

A census search for William Henry Williams with Henry Williams gives me a choice of families so that I don't know which to follow.

William Henry died 20/2/1931 according to a newspaper clipping and his gravestone says birth was 1889. A search on that gives some close matches but again which one?

I also have a partial swimming cert from the army which suggests William Henry was tested at Sollum (?) in June 1918. The date stamp says RWF.There's a number before his name - 240670, is there anyway I can use this to search for him?

I'd appreciate any advice otherwise I might have to flip a coin and adopt a family. Thanks for taking the time to read - hope it wasn't too garbled.

Thanks Polly, think you're right, it's another possible to add to the list. The son's age isn't quite right but on the plus side, it's got the grocer link! And with an apprentice - they sound reasonably well off for 1901. I might just claim these ones and be done with it!

thanks Roy. Just had a quick look on Ancestry using that reg number. No obvious match, I've just trawled through a few pages but will try again later. And maybe I can find something about the Royal Welsh, so thanks for that too.

He does have an army pension record on Ancestry although it doesn't give any next of kin. His home address on joining is 10 (or 16) Castle St, and on demobilization it's 18 Castle St. He's an ironworker - galviniser for John Summers & Sons. He served in Egypt, joining the battalion at Sollum.

That's brilliant. Thanks Ozi - would have said so sooner but have been engrossed in papers. Might not be huge detail there but it's more than I've ever known about Grandad Williams. Wow!
