Scots burial details

The records tend to vary considerably between parishes. Some give name of relative, age of deceased and cause of death, others are more like what you describe.

They do tend to be consistent for a given recorder, though.

Although Scottish d.certs are much more informative than English ones, before 1855, when one relies on the old parish records, one generally finds there are two levels of detail - skimpy or none. If you can locate the grave, the memorial inscriptions are usually much more helpful than the OPRs.

Downloaded what I thought would be burial details possibly stating wife/widow instead I get what appears to be a bill for burial costs with deceased name and who to go to for payment - does not tell me if this is her husband/son. Is this what one usually gets for burial details? Had another look and it is the cost for best velvet mort cloth!!!!
