Hi Kenzie
I'm not old enough to know about the 60's, but in the 70's the Medway paper was the Evening Post on Monday to Friday. This was part of the Kent Messenger Group, I can't remember if the Messenger was a paper then or just the parent company. In addition the Chatham Standard came out on Tuesday, and the Chatham News (which owned the Standard, now known as Medway News) came out on a Friday.
I'd be inclined to contact the Messenger and News for advice. If you can't find anything online let me know, we have the Messenger quite often now so I'll find a contact number.

Try the Medway Archoves again - I think they now have a searchable list of articles.

By googling 'Kent Messenger Group' you will see that the company own most of the newspapers in the Kent area and more information might be obtained from them.

I think the Medway Gazette covered the Medway Towns in the 1960/70s and the Kent Messenger covered Maidstone.

I can't tell you about the newspapers for the area, but you will probably find back copies on microfilm at the nearest reference library for the area.

Hi i needed some help in finding the best place to view the papers for the Maidstone, Strood and Gillingham areas of Kent. For the 1960 -1970 years. I tried the Medway Archives but they only had from 1966, (it was a few years back mind).
Also does anyone know what the main local paper was during this time?
Thank you.
