The majority of people on GR are so helpful it's amazing!

However, has anyone any tips for encouraging 'found' family members to reciprocate and be helpful - especially when you have sent them considerable info and they are obviously using it online???

Very irritating, I know.

I dont really know how you could approach this problem, apart from asking them why they are not being helpful.
If you felt really mean about it, you could send them another batch of information - full of mistakes and inaccuracies. That'll learn 'em!!!.

Tempting! ...... just seems one side of the family mostly - but I guess that's families for you! I'm not asking for regular invitations to Tea or anything, just a few family memories, a detail or two, or a couple of old family photies maybe - and they can easily be scanned.

Complete strangers seem much more ready to give their time!!

Thanks Karen

I too have this problem- some of my family seem happy (and interested) to take all the info I find, but if I ask for a copy of any photos (that I know they have), or for a few memories they tend to shut down!

However, I did get some success when I posted out questionnaires with a self addressed stamped envelope- and included a section on childhood memories.

Thanks Helen

I have tried writing, and making sure they have my email address - but maybe I needed that stamped addressed envelope !!

At least I know it's not just me !!!
