I have been looking all day for my husband`s grandfather. I believe his name was Reuben Booth, my husband`s dad was born in 1898 to Reuben and Sarah(no idea of her name), I am unable to find any marriage record in the 10 years possible. They were born in 1872. The couple were supposedly married when they had my father in law in 1898. I cannot look for her except through the marriage records as being married to him is the only place I can look for her name. It says when I look there are 44 exact matches yet I cannot find one match. Any suggestions.

if you can order your husband's father's birth certificate this should tell you his father's name and his mother's name / maiden name, you should then be able to trace their marriage, their marriage cert will give you their father's names and allow you to go further back

I haven't lost interest but I heard from someone who said that the person was not whom I was looking for. I am also tracing several other family lines and missed everyone's responses as I haven't checked back here since last week. My apologies for not responding to you all. I am very grateful for your input. I am very reluctant to spend money on possible certificates as they are so costly with remote investigation. I am currently living in Ontario Canada so cannot check stuff very easily myself.
I am currently looking at another family. James Henry Booth since the timing is about right and that is my husband's middle name so it is kind of logical.
Thanks again.

Do you know the name of your husband's father?

Where was your husband born?

From the information you gave the marriage of Reuben Booth and Sarah Ann Garbutt seems most likely and they did have a child in 1898. If you can confirm your husband's father's name then it should be easy to confirm whether or not this is his family.

My father in law's name was William. My husband's middle name is James, first is Michael. My son's name is Simon(the brother of Andrew) Peter(my dad's name) William my husband's dad's name.So I think James H is the most likely grandfather. The Booth side originally hale from West Hartlepool

Do you have your husband's birth certificate? That should name his parents and from this you need to find their marriage certificate.

This will name your husband's father's father and you will then know whether his name was Reuben or James Henry and you will then know which family is the right one.
