Just looked on Ancestry and there is a bit of a problem

If you search for Leah b 1843 etc when you look at the actual image for that entry only the names starting with A come up
however if you go up to where the L's come in then Leah is there.

I agree it is very indistinct but having done some transcribing for FreeBMD I would go with page 551.

I think you can contact GRO and ask them to confirm the page number

Helen - Well, 551 ties in with my impression, but I can't really read the image on FreeBMD. I know the image on Ancestry is a different filming, and was thinking someone could check it out there.

Just had to edit my last message- just realised what everyone was talking about!! Bit slow today.

Not sure if this helps but- looking at the indexes I think the birth above should be 26 551.

26 551 is Llanelly
26 331 is Bridgend

The district Llanelly spans the boundaries of the counties of Carmarthenshire and Glamorgan.

Births Mar 1843 (>99%)
Davies Leah Llanelly 26 331

Peterstone's a bit of a problem - there's a Peterstone Wentlooge near the coast between Newport and Cardiff. However, Llanelly's in Carmarthen, W of Swansea.

UNCLEAR IMAGE
Maybe someone with Ancestry can check the page # (551 looks equally likely to me).
I think there's an email addy at the GRO you can write to ask them, but I can never find anything on their site.

Can someone help please, I would like to send for a birth certificate for my gt grandmother. I cant find any information for her on the birth records well to be honest I cant understand the writing.

Her name is Leah Davies, on her marriage cert her age is given as 22yrs old she married in 1864.

her maiden name was also Davies ? father 's name EVAN would love to order her birth cert to find her mother's name.
Place of marriage was Bridgend Glamorgan, and her birth was peterstone Glamorgan.
