I am looking at an 1841 Scottish Census image in the burgh of Forres for Agnes Grant aged 13.

In the census she is residing with a Janet Dickie whose occupation/profession is described as independent means. I do not know what their connection is.

Agnes has the initials F.S in the occupation/profession column. Could anyone please advise what this refers to? These initials seem to have been placed next to about 6 females of varying ages and address but no males.

If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Kate

Could be an abbreviation for Female Servant. I've seen "MS" too in 1841, and that seems to go next to male servants.

Unfortunately, there's no relationships given here, but it's seems possible that Janet was Agnes's gt aunt.
