Well Mad Alice, I must have got the wrong end of the stick too as I thought I'd at long last be able to view who my grandads parents were!!
Oh well

Looks like Ancestry is behind with transferring marriage transcriptions from freebmd which is now almost complete for the 1920s.

I wonder if they are going to introduce searchable marriages from 1916 as they have done with births.

also, I have just looked on the BMDs on ancestry and this is what it says for marriages, i.e. only searchable for what is already on freebmd and for 1984 on:

Marriages

Marriages 1837 – 1915 (transcribed by FreeBMD)

Marriages 1984 - 2005 (transcribed)

Marriage Indexes 1837 – 1983

Marriages are fully searchable by name and you will find individual matches in Marriages 1837 – 1915 and Marriages 1984 – 2005.

For marriages between 1916 – 1983 you will need to use the Marriage Indexes. Your search result will show the first and last result on the relevant page (image). Once you’ve opened the image you can then scroll down and look for your ancestor yourself on the page.

there is a very long thread on this on the General board, if you go to Ancestry and look at their press release for this week you will see that it is just the indexes that are available i.e. not certs or images of certs etc as apparently people were led to believe, in fact the press release is virtually identical to one issued in Feb so it is nothing new!

So, how come the head of Ancestry, who was on the programme, said that their BMD indexes were fully searchable?

And this mesage was posted on another forum I go on

Having just done a search on Ancestry the results now show - England & Wales, Marriage Index: 1916-2005. The only marriages found are post 1984, but here's hoping the pre 84 marriages appear in the next few days

Thought it was worth a mention.

I wonder if anyone was watching BBC breakfast a couple of days ago when they were discussing birth records which are(or perhaps soon will be) available on Ancestry. i was in morning mode and obviously not paying full attention. Did anyone catch it? It sounded like the full certificates may be going online as they mentioned being able to find the name of mother , father and mothr's maden name. I have looked on Ancestry and Googled but drawn a blank. Was anyone else paying moer attention than me please? Alice
