Hello,
Thank you everyone for the quick replies.
I've been considering Martha JAMES. There are several in the the
1881 census but none in the immediate area. I wish I could remember
why I came up with JONES. I just send for their son Joshua's BC.
The 1881 census threw me for a loop until I compared the children's ages to the 1901 and 1911 censuses and the baptism dates I found on FamilySearch.org. Whoever did the census had the children's ages off by at 5-7 years and the handwritting was so bad that Ancestry shows a dozen submitted corrections on one page alone! I can only guess that
it was an armchair census and not a walk and talk census.
I haven't visited the Sedgley Manor site for a while, I think I'll pay him a visit.
Thank you again,
David

David.

Have you seen the Ancient Manor of Sedgley site. Very interesting and you can contact others looking for names.
I found a contact for my Darby family and between us we sorted a mystery

Yes, it is quite possible - it could even be (as a couple of my ancestors did, for reasons I cannot fathom!) that they married 20 or 30 years after their first child was born. Rare, but it could happen.

The children's birth certificates would have her maiden name on them, though.

Hello,
Trying to find marriage record of Samuel Timmins, b. 1862 and Martha (Jones, I think) b. 1862, Sedgley, Staffordshire. I've tried FREEBMD, Ancestry, GenesReunited and the Latter Day Saints site. I have St. James's Church records showing his two brothers being married but not him.
I have tried FREE BMD with first names, last names only, no names, her name etc., but still no luck. Any other places that I
might check? Is it possible that in that time period that they never got
married (they had eleven childen, the first in 1882 and the last in 1905. Would their children's birth records show Martha's maiden name? Would her death record (if I can find it) show her maiden
name?
Thank you in advance for any help.
