Could also be - this is a long shot, but it is a possibility, I suppose - that somehow the person you have contacted has forgotten their password either for this site or for the e-mail account that they signed up to this site with. So they can't get into their e-mail account to see the notification that they've got a message on this site.

Helen, you obviously on the path to being a main headhunter!!! And a very social Genealogist. Don't give up on people...please.

I am, proven, probably, the only researcher of a Midlands Based Cooke family 1735-1901.

Having left two messeage for "a Member" who has two important links from my "fully researched tree" not on GR I may add, I can offer forward, lateral and past information that I know is impossible to find using "normal"search methods.

I would need however proof that the member is not just a name collector.

Good hunting, best regards, Bob

Thankyou Keith and Bob

For your interesting and helpful input and suggestions regarding unanswered messages.

In this instance, I'm actually 'offering' information and photographs of two GR members ancestors graves. Nothing to do with my own research. I found these while having a look round a very out of the way and isolated churchyard set in the countryside.

The chances of these graves being found is almost non existent ... and it will be a pity if my message remains unread and they miss out on this opportunity of tracking down the resting place of their ancestor.

They have still to open their message .... if ever.

Regards,
Helen

I too have left recent messages that I find that have been unopened.

Very frustrating, especially when GR actually inform a member, current, lapsed or other that they have correspondence by way of their registered private e mail address.

Even more annoying are members who receive mail, open and then cannot be bothered to reply, even by way of saying “no thanks”.

I am about to leave a “trying to find” post for one member.

Best regards and good hunting, Bob

Hello

I have asked GR about this and other issues that related to inactive members, people who have used the site and are no longer members, etc.

I suggested to GR that they incorporate a" last date signed in" , so current users , like myself can see that the person Im contacting is still active on GR, free members or paying members alike.

Its a common thing on many social networking sites and is secure, you would have the option to show or hide this feature " last date signed in" just like you can hide or show living relatives.

It will certainly help take away the frustrations that surround the unanswered messages we all send, I have a number myself, and I know of some accounts or trees have not been used in months if not a year.

Hope this has also been of some help.

Have a nice Day.

Thanks Ricochet

Wasn't sure what the situation was.

Non-paying users of the site can receive, and read, messages

I have sent several messages to others and so far, the 'purple envelope' hasn't been opened and the message read.

Does anyone know if you have to have an up to date subscription to GR or you will not be able to read your incoming messages.
