Hi everyone,

Does anyone know of a good site or source of information to track people in the USA?

I am trying to trace a Peter White Farquhar who was born in 1905 in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbarton, Scotland.

It appears that he then went to the USA at some stage, then in WW2 he came out to Melbourne, Australia and married my relative, Mavis Pearl Victory McCall (Yep that's really her name!) in 1939. On the marriage certificate he listed his occupation as Marine Engineer.

I have checked the archives in Australia and they have a record of him returning to Australia October 1948 and leaving 1 Deecmber 1949.

The only record I can trace is of Mavis arriving into San Francisco 1893-1957 so not very specific.

I'd love to be able to see what happened to them, but I am not sure of the best way to go about it.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks

A Mavis Farquhar was headed to Sydney in 1947. Her age is given as 30 years old. She and her children (I will send their information by pm) departed Honolulu, Hawaii on 8 October 1947.

The manifest mentions San Francisco, 7/8/41.

Her permanent address is in Glenirie?, Melbourne.

Mavis Pearl Victory Farquhar arrived in San Francisco on 8 July 1941 from Sydney. Her birthplace was Noe Carlton Vic, Australia. The ship was Mariposa. She was travelling with infant "Victory", age 9 months.

Not sure when passports came into being but in 1923 one of my ancestors travelled from New York to Glasgow on a visit.

I was able to view her details and passport photograph on Ancestry USA.

Maybe you will be able to do the same with your Farquhar relatives when they left Scotland in 1916. You may get to see their photographs.

Might be worth asking someone to have a look to check if the information is available.

Thanks Helen for the tip.

I had only been able to find asmall record on Ancestry for Peter Farquhar and that just told me he had arrived back in the USA but not much else.

I'll have another dig around!

Regards

Rachelle
