Anybody else see such a job advertised, please pass it on. Right up my street as newly retired. Perhaps we "experts" can start a partnership?

Id never seen this program before. We were tracked down nearly 3 years back. Two "genealogists" firms rang me having found my website with the family tree. They then stated they wanted 20% of the inheritance for doing the research/claim.

I thought that was a bit much as theyd had most of their work done by me already! Celtic researcher (I saw that one on the programme) said they agreed and offered to do it for 10%. They dont tell you who the deceased is, but by deduction I sorted out the likely one, went to Bona Vacanta, the treasury site and woo hoo, there was the distant cousin with an unusual name.

The first bloke who wanted 20% managed to sign up the rest of the inheriters but I refused to do so . He then instructed a very expensive London solicitor to handle the case. That was annoying, any solicitor could have done it.

Said solicitor wrote to me saying he thought I should sign up with the research firm as proving a claim was a very complicated and technical matter which only specialists could do. He then gave me 6 weeks to produce a tree and the accompanying proofs (15 certs). I sent them back that day - LOL.

Recently got the pay out and we had saved £4200 by doing it ourselves.

I know in the past that I've viewed a Calendar of Wills in book form at a Record Office.
Wills were grouped in years proved, then alpabetically and there was often enough outline information to be able to know whether it was of family interest.
eg. name of deceased,
address,
occupation,
executor.
Obviously quanty and quality of information would vary, but very useful book for deciding whether or not to persue that line.

Hi all,
Just watched a dvd which a friend recorded this morning. Couldn't believe it..... two of my friends relations were on it reliving the past of a princess.
They thought she may have left a good fortune but alas she died penniless!

This is great viewing.

That would be my idea of a perfect job. I could do it standing on my head but unfortunately I don't drive and don't have the right bits of paper.
