Having researched some dates for family members for BDM's is there a way I can confirm they are the correct people before I order the certificates? I am a novice as you can tell!
Thanks
Jan

Hi Janet,

Unfortunately not - although if you know the parents' names, you can give those as checking points so you won't waste too much money.

Thanks Janice - so what is the best way to order to be able to do this?
Cheers

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Cost is £7 per cert
You need the GRO reference from the indexes and give the info you know as a check. If the cert you have given isn't a match, they refund £3 (I think)

I would just caution putting in too many checking details as this could cause a rejection if there is a spelling mismatch.

For example, for a birth certificate prior to 1913 (when the mother's maiden name started to appear on the index) if you quote Elizabeth Smith, but the cert shows Betty Smith, then your request will be rejected. Better to just quote Smith
