Just to let those who replied to me know that I have ordered the Marriage cert for John Hill. I'm not holding out much hope that there is a fathers name on it though. Will keep you informed.

John married Mary Waitt 1849. Newcastle and South Shields are about eight miles apart. It's a shame when you have one branch on your tree empty.

The family moved to South Shields after Margarets second Marriage. I have looked for a marriage for a long time now, have looked on Family Search, Durham records online and Ancestry but you know how sometimes the harder we look the less we see. Thank you for your interest.

If he were born 1829 we can safely assume he married after 1837 - have you not looked for his marriage certificate for his fathers name?

Going on the fact that Duncan was a very unusual name then (outside of Scotland :)), I cant see a Duncan Hill dying or marrying in the Woolwich area? Did they move?

Does anyone have access to Woolwich parish records or can I access them online? I'm looking for the Father of my G.G.Granda John Hill b. Woolwich 1829 to Margaret Clark. There was also another boy Duncan b. 1823. I don't know if Margaret was married but as the boys were named Hill and not Clark I'm assuming she was. She later married a William Morton in 1832 and went on to have several more children.
Any help would be appreciated.
