I,d like to know if an ex member of Genes would still come up as a match? I,ve sent a message to a chap but he hasn,t even opened it. Could this mean he,s no longer a member I wonder. Thanks, Heather.

Yes they could, and no, he quite possibly isnt.

some people leave, delete tree inf0 etc etc
others just get bored and not come back for a day or two. which stretches for a week or two, and then a month or two, then a year or two

....................... and GR does not delete the names of members who stop paying their subscriptions ..... they treat them the same as the non-paying members. Hence the huge membership list!!!

Nor do they delete the trees.


GR does send any member an email to their home email address to say that there is a pm waiting on this site ......... but that depends on every member ensuring that GR has an updated email address for them.

Those of us who pay forget that Genes is actually a free site,so that "ex member" may be nothing of the sort.
Over the years I have registered with countless free sites and rarely revisit.
Those that pester with emails I just mark as junk.
A lot of people build their tree here for free or put a gedcom here as a backup.
