3 brothers marrying 3 sisters

Thank you all for your tips. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has come across this. I think I will just leave the sisters as "wives" rather than inserting their families three times and will just add notes.

Thanks again.

I have brothers marrying sisters and can definately say they don't import correctly into GR via gedcom from FTM.

Ron is quite correct in that FTM will also display its tree reports in two dimensions so the names will appear more than once, but with a number against them i.e. Fred Smith (I) Fred Smith (II), which is FTM's way of showing they are one and the same person.

The other difference is that FTM's (and other commercial tree programs) only holds the name in its database once, but can have multiple links to several other names, whereas GR doesn't.

Other GR members, on earlier threads insist cousins will import correctly into GR, although I have my doubts, but as I don't have any on my GR file at present., I can't confirm either way.

I have the same problem in my tree, children of those families then went on to marry each other as well!
There is no way to display this on genesreunited.

I use Family Tree Maker on my pc which copes well with these types of marriages, but as soon as i import my tree to genes people start appearing multiple times!

GR uses a simlilar format to FTM for displaying trees, it's doesn't matter what program you use to join the marriages off GR when you import the gecom it will still not show up correctly on the GR tree.

Download software such as PAF (http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp?page=home/welcome/simplePAFRegistration.asp)

Export your tree from here intp PAF, and you should be able to connect them.

Then you can import the tree back onto here

At present there is no way of connecting the two families. I have the same problem with first cousins marrying.

I have come across 3 brothers marrying 3 sisters in my family tree, but have unfortunately found that there is no way of connecting them on here.

Is it a case of just entering the sisters as wives, without actually being able to link them as sisters and indeed their families?

Has anyone else come across this?

Any ideas?

Thanks
