Thanks all !!
I think that Thomas may well have been illegitmate, hence no birth record and ending up on his own in the workhouse, and no record of father etc just mothers name.

I'll try the record office next and see were i go from there.
Thanks
Bob

Did your Thomas marry? If so, his father's name should be on the marriage cert which would help to confirm any baptism found. If it isn't, it probably means he was illegitmate. Warwickshire County Records Office has Bastardy Bonds. Try their website - there are no records on line but there is an online catalogue.

You can go to the county records office for the area and look at the parish records there, or, if you do not live close to the area you can order filmed copies of parish records from your nearest LDS Family History Centre (addresses are on www.familysearch.org). It only costs a few pounds to order a film and they keep it for about a month to give you time to view it.

Hi,
as a newbe to this, i'm looking for some tips on were to go next.
i've traced my family back as far as the 1841 census, to Thomas Fulton born c1833, in a workhouse in Chilvers Coton. I believe his mother was named Elizabeth Fulton born c 1812. posibly in Nuneaton. I can find no birth record for Thomas, nor any record relating to his mother. I've looked on sites like "family search" but can't see anything. How do i move on from here?
