I think you need to track down one of his children and apply for that birth cert. Louisa's age is different on the 1871 and 1881 so not sure when she was born - age says 6 on the 1871 and I wonder whether they meant 6months. That would fit with the age 10 on the 1881.

Or should she have been 16 on the 1881 and 10 is a mistranscription?

Henry's birth cert should match Thomas' occupation which would help - and the family lived in the same area from 1871 to 1881 so likely that you might even be able to match the address.

If you send for one of the marriage certs you would have no way of knowing if this was your man or not. Well, you might have his age - but if it said "full" you are none the wiser. Personally I'd go for the child that is your direct ancestor and work back from that.

Bear in mind that Ellen was born in Somerset so they may not have married in Surrey.

I really appreciate your look- up Esta- thanks but this was the info I found on the 1881 census. Can I find his marriage cert from this info? I expect I could find it on Ancestory but I don't subscribe at the moment.

There won't be a birth certificate if he was born c.1833 as registration didn't start until 1837 and wasn't compulsory until 1875.
