Can anyone please tell me how you would find out if someone has left a Will and whether you would be able to view this??

The year I am talking about is 1839 - I have Death Cert.

not all indices to wills are online.
If you contact the county records office in question they may tell you if there was a will cleared in the ecclesistical court appropriate for the area. They may even have a copy. This applies for wills up to 1858 after which there is a national index which can usually be found on fiche in any county records office

If it is a bequest to the widow, the word could be relict; that is another name for widow.

I might have confused things there I said bequest but not sure if that is what it is. I don't think its his widow as it also mentioned William ( her husband) and her surname is Hobbes as she was present at the death

The will was proved in 1840 and am having real problems disphering it.

I actually don't even know if I have the correct family line.
