Hi Allan, right up my street. Will look up the Derby one now - unless you can provide further details.

Great idea, Joy (http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1162069).

This idea of mine maybe isn't so useful as (a) it will go out of date quickly and (b) only a small number of people will be within range of any specific event or course. But here goes:

The WEA in Derbyshire have 3 courses starting in autumn 2009:
"Family history research: how to use archives and record offices" (Held in Derby)
"Family history for beginners" (held in Belper)
"Delving deeper into family history" (held in Holbrook)
Details for these - and courses anywhere else - go to www.wea.org.uk

Buckinghamshire FHS will be holding its Open Day on Saturday 25th July 2009, 10am to 4pm, at the Grange School, Wendover Way, Aylesbury. See http://www.bucksfhs.org.uk/
