Hi AllenC

Thanks for your comments. I was just wondering that's all, trying to locate a possible 5x gt grandfathr's name that's all. This actual patten doesn't fit with my family but they have named all their children after their siblings including middle names etc right through to my father and then it stopped. I just wanted to look for possible names of 5xgt grandparents that's all.

Thanks though for your comments it's appreciated.

Lou

If there is a convention it doesn't seem to be followed to any great extent.

After a quick look at my tree, my paternal grandparents named their eldest son and eldest daughter after themselves. The rest of their family don't seem to have been named according to any pattern, although some names from earlier generations were used.

As for me, I was named after my two grandfathers (paternal first, but I've always been known by my maternal grandfather's name, Allan).

On my mother's side, people have often had their parent's names, or in one branch boys have had their mother's maiden surname as a second name.

My son has my father's name as his second name and my daughter has my mother-in-law's name as her second name. Their first names have no specific family connection.

What is the naming pattern for England please. I know each country seems to have a different view.

Is it first son named after father
2nd son after wife's father
3rd after paternal grandfaterh
4th after maternam grandfather etc

and the same for the female line or have I got it completely wrong.

I much appreciate your help on this. I've tried googling and have only found Irish and Scottish.

Thanks in advance,
Lou
